In ordinary warehouses or production workshops, the core tasks of industrial casters are usually carrying, moving, and turning. But in scenarios such as electronic manufacturing, precision instruments, laboratories, and clean workshops, casters may also undertake another easily overlooked requirement - electrostatic control. Many companies only focus on wheel diameter, load-bearing capacity, and material selection, without confirming whether the equipment needs anti-static capabilities. As a result, the wheels may be able to push and function, but may not necessarily meet the requirements of on-site management.

Why do some workshops use anti-static casters? Don't let a small wheel affect precision production

1、 Why are casters also related to static electricity?
During the movement of the device, the wheel surface will constantly come into contact and friction with the ground. Different materials, ground environments, and changes in air humidity can all affect the accumulation and release of static electricity. For ordinary handling scenarios, this impact is usually not significant; But for areas sensitive to static electricity, any components that may pose static electricity risks need to be included in management. Although the casters are only small components at the bottom of the equipment, they are the long-term contact points between the equipment and the ground, so they should not be ignored.
2、 Which scenarios require more attention to anti-static wheels?
Anti static casters are not mandatory for all devices, as they are more suitable for applications that require static control. For example, electronic component production, semiconductor related processes, precision testing equipment, laboratory mobile platforms, clean workshop turnover vehicles, etc. In these scenarios, device movement should not only be smooth, but also minimize the potential impact of static electricity accumulation. If there are already management measures such as electrostatic protection flooring, electrostatic clothing, and electrostatic table mats on site, the casters should also be included in the same set of protection logic.
3、 Anti static is not equal to ordinary black wheels
Many people directly understand "black wheels" as anti-static casters, which is a common misconception. The color of the wheel surface alone cannot prove its functional attributes. Whether it has anti-static performance depends on the material formula, structural design, and actual applicable requirements. When purchasing, do not judge solely based on appearance, and do not simply replace ordinary rubber wheels and ordinary polyurethane wheels with anti-static products. A truly reliable selection should be based on clear operating requirements and product specifications provided by suppliers.
4、 Just changing the wheels does not mean that the entire device has completed electrostatic protection
Anti static is a systemic issue that cannot be solved independently by individual components. Even if the casters have relevant performance, if the equipment frame, ground, connection structure, or usage environment do not match, it may still affect the overall effect. Therefore, when using mobile devices in static sensitive areas, ground conditions, equipment structure, personnel operation, and daily maintenance should be considered simultaneously, rather than relying solely on casters.
5、 It is recommended to confirm these issues before purchasing
Before selecting, it can be clarified whether the equipment is used in static sensitive areas? Is there a requirement for static electricity control on the ground at the site? Is the equipment permanently placed or frequently moved? Do casters need to balance quietness, wear resistance, load-bearing capacity, or corrosion resistance? Is it necessary to maintain consistency with existing management standards? The clearer this information is, the less likely it is for the caster selection to deviate.
6、 Regular inspections should also be conducted during use
Anti static casters also require maintenance. After long-term use, dust, oil stains or impurities may adhere to the wheel surface, which may affect the contact state with the ground; Wear, cracking, or contamination of the wheel surface can also affect its actual performance. Therefore, the inspection of casters in static sensitive areas should not only focus on whether they can roll, but also pay attention to the cleanliness and wear status of the wheel surface and whether the equipment grounding management meets the on-site requirements.
7、 Don't neglect basic performance for the sake of functionality
Some procurement companies overlook the bearing capacity, wheel diameter, installation method, and ground adaptation when they see the three words "anti-static". In fact, anti-static casters are still primarily industrial casters. It must meet basic requirements such as equipment weight, movement frequency, ground conditions, steering mode, and maintenance convenience. Matching functional attributes with basic performance is the truly suitable solution for the site.
